The city of Almería → Preface

View from the fortress of the city and the harbor

The capital, Almería, lies in the center of the Bay of Almería, open to the Alborán Sea and protected by the Gádor and Alhamilla mountain ranges. With a population of approximately 170,000, it is a small but welcoming city. Once a seafaring town, it is now a modern, cosmopolitan financial and administrative center, as well as a university city.

The illuminated Alcazaba

While the city may not have any major attractions, the pleasant climate, friendly people, tapas route, beaches, and many other attractions that every traveler will find here are reason enough for the city's population to grow year after year, with thousands of people from various parts of the Almería peninsula choosing to live here. Strolling through its streets, we discover a city full of nuances, cheerful and welcoming, an Almería full of dazzling lights, warm, welcoming, and rich in history.
