Sierra de las Estancias |
Fine, general view |
Partaloa, Los Desplomes |
The towns of the province, located in the Sierra de las Estancias, represent unusual landscapes because of the steep terrain, hills overall, as well
as the stark contrast between the irrigated floodplains and the dry and arid regions. The visual spectacle is guaranteed.
In Fines, the marble tradition is still important, as are the agricultural uses, which are faithfully reflected in the town's coat of arms. Of
particular note are the Roman and Moorish remains in the Cueva del Castillo.
In the Arquillos riverbed, in a valley of white clay, lies Partaloa with one of the most unusual visual spectacles: Los Desplomes, huge blocks of
stone conglomerates that lie in front of the town.

Olías, remains of the Moorish fortress |
Pottery in Albox |
Albox, Torre Aljambra |
Oria marks the arrival of the Los Vélez region. The hills have been famous since ancient times because various settlers considered them a sacred
place for prayer and pilgrimage. Agricultural remains have been preserved at the Olías site and traces of a castle and a Moorish fortress.
Albox has been considered the region's commercial center since the 19th century, with particular emphasis on economic activities based on weaving and
artisan pottery. Because of its location, the place later became the economic center between Lorca and Baza. This prosperity and development made the
place one of the main centers for the livestock trade. The livestock markets in November around All Saints Day have been known for decades. It has a rich cultural heritage, reflected in the Neolithic sites with defenses in the Oria riverbed, the cistern and the Aljambra tower from the 13th century.
Nature lovers will certainly not be disappointed if they follow the path from Laroya to Mina
